Welcome to our summer blog series, “Meet the Georgia Farmers,” where we’re taking you behind the scenes of the Oconee Farmers Market and beyond to shine a light on the incredible people who grow, create, and care for the local food we all enjoy.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing stories from the heart of Georgia’s farming community — profiles of growers who are not only passionate about what they produce but also deeply committed to sustainability, organic practices, and the power of local food. From mushroom farms tucked away in small towns to family-run orchards and flower fields, each post will introduce you to the farmers, their unique methods, and the inspiration behind their work.
Our goal is simple: to connect you with the faces behind the food, to celebrate the beauty of local agriculture, and to deepen our appreciation for the farmers who nourish our communities every day.
So whether you’re a regular at the Saturday market or simply curious about where your food comes from — we invite you to follow along, share these stories, and maybe even visit a farm or two. Because when you know your farmer, you know your food.
🍄 Meet Andrews Acres Gourmet Mushrooms
Location: Comer, Georgia
Owners: Patrick, Mike, and Carrie Andrews

At first glance, Andrews Acres may look like a small mushroom farm tucked away in the quiet town of Comer — but step a little closer, and you’ll discover a thriving, family-run operation deeply rooted in values of sustainability, community, and connection.
Run by the passionate trio of Patrick, Mike, and Carrie Andrews, Andrews Acres is more than just a place that grows gourmet mushrooms — it’s a place where intention meets innovation. Each mushroom is hand-harvested and grown using organic and non-GMO materials, without synthetic sprays or chemicals. Their growing environments are designed to replicate the rhythms of nature, producing fungi that are not only beautiful and flavorful but also clean and consciously cultivated.
“Mushrooms are more than food — they’re truly amazing,” says Carrie. “Growing them isn’t just our job — it’s our joy.”

What began as a humble experiment has blossomed into a full-fledged passion project. From supplying local chefs to empowering home growers with starter kits, Andrews Acres is dedicated to building relationships through real food. You can find them every Saturday at the Oconee Farmers Market or delivering fresh orders to local restaurants that prioritize seasonal, sustainably-sourced ingredients.
They're also a proud stop on Georgia Grown’s Trail 98, inviting visitors from near and far to tour the farm and witness firsthand how gourmet mushrooms come to life — from spore to harvest.
🌱 Why They Grow the Way They Do
Sustainability at Andrews Acres isn’t a trend — it’s a daily practice. They recycle spent substrate, conserve water, and use growing methods that promote soil health and clean indoor air. Every harvest is a reflection of their values and commitment to the environment.
Whether they’re greeting market-goers with friendly smiles, offering hands-on mushroom-growing workshops, or sharing the magic of fungi on social media, the Andrews family believes good food begins with good relationships.
