🌹 Meet the Georgia Farmers: Little Rose Organics - Stories from Our Dedicated Growers

In Georgia’s heat, lettuce used to be a five-month crop. Now, thanks to hydroponics, Little Rose Organics supplies fresh, local greens to restaurants and home kitchens all year long.

Location: Georgia

Family-Owned Since: 1807

Established as Little Rose Organics: 2015

Rooted in History, Growing for the Future - Farming runs deep in the soil — and the soul — of Little Rose Organics. This historic piece of land has been farmed since 1807, when the first Elder family member, David, journeyed from Virginia to Georgia. Today, the land is lovingly stewarded by the Steele family, who continue that legacy with intention, care, and innovation.

In 2015, the Steeles officially launched Little Rose Organics after receiving a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). That support helped bring their dream to life through the construction of a High Tunnel Hoop House, a major step toward sustainable, year-round growing.

🌿 Rooted in Education & Sustainability

The Steele's are proud partners in the University of Georgia’s Capstone Program, where students help implement practical sustainability solutions for the farm. And for more than a decade, Little Rose Nature Adventures has offered hands-on farming and nature programs to children, teaching the next generation the value of land, food, and connection.

💧 A Lettuce Revolution

From their very first garden in 1993, the family has grown steadily. Most recently, they converted their greenhouse to be 90% hydroponic — a transformative step for both production and education. Thanks to this innovation, they now grow organic, soil-free lettuce year-round, with no washing required.

“It’s a total game-changer for our farm. The lettuce goes from tower to bag in moments — perfectly clean, organically grown, and ready to eat.”

Alongside vegetables, flowers for pollinators bloom throughout the farm — another way the Steeles support biodiversity and the environment. Their photo archives are filled with joyful moments from garden discoveries, kids’ camps, and blooming rows of greens.
