Oconee Farmers Market Weekly Newsletterâ
Hello, September!
â
There’s something special about the first Saturdays of September.
The calendar says summer, but you can feel another season beginning to peek around the corner. The mornings are starting to soften, the gardens are changing, and our farmers are bringing us the harvests that tell us fall is on its way.
And while we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet, we’re certainly happy to welcome September!
Join us this Saturday from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM at Wire Park for another morning at the Oconee Farmers Market.
Bring your market bag, bring a friend, and come see what our local farmers, bakers, makers, artisans, and small businesses have brought for you this week.
The Market Changes With the Seasons
â
One of my favorite things about being at the Farmers Market is watching the seasons unfold right before us.
The tables don't look exactly the same from month to month—or even from week to week.
Summer favorites are still making appearances while new fall harvests begin finding their way to the Market. Our vendors are creating new things, bringing back customer favorites, and continuing to surprise us with something a little different each Saturday.
That's what makes a Farmers Market so much fun.
You can make a list before you come, but there is always room for a little discovery.
*Maybe you'll find something for dinner.
*Maybe you'll find something for your pantry.
*Maybe you'll discover a beautiful handmade gift, something sweet for the weekend, or a new local business you didn't know about.
You just never know what you'll find until you come see us!
September at the Market
â
September is also the beginning of a very busy and exciting stretch for the Oconee Farmers Market.
â
We still have plenty of Saturday mornings ahead of us, and we're already looking toward the special events coming later this fall and into the holiday season.
đ Harvest Fest — October 24
One of our biggest celebrations of the season! We'll be bringing our Market community together to enjoy the fall season, our wonderful vendors, and everything that makes shopping local so special.
đŹ Movie Night & Black Saturday — November 13 & November 29
Our regular Saturday Market season may wrap up in October, but we're not done yet! We'll have special November events planned, so keep watching for more details.
đ Christmas at Wire Park — December 12 & 19
And then it's Christmas! Two special opportunities to shop small, shop local, and find unique gifts while supporting the wonderful businesses and artisans in our community.
We'll be sharing more details about each event as we get closer, so be sure to keep an eye on our social media and future newsletters.
Fall Festival Weekend — October 17
â
Mark your calendars because the Market will be making a little move in October!
On Saturday, October 17, the Oconee Farmers Market will be celebrating the Watkinsville Fall Festival in Downtown Watkinsville.
Instead of our usual location at Wire Park, you'll find the Market in the Girasoles parking lot in Downtown Watkinsville.
And because we're celebrating, we'll be changing our hours for the day to match the festival:
đ Saturday, October 17
đ Girasoles Parking Lot — Downtown Watkinsville
â° 8:00 AM–3:00 PM
â
So plan to come early, stay awhile, enjoy the Fall Festival, and of course, stop by and shop with our wonderful local farmers, makers, and small businesses!
It's going to be a fun day in Downtown Watkinsville, and we can't wait to be part of it.
More details about the Fall Festival and everything happening that day will be coming soon!
â
A Saturday Morning Worth Getting Up For
There are so many places you could spend your Saturday morning.
We hope you'll choose to spend at least a little bit of it with us.
Come grab a coffee, walk through the Market, talk with our vendors, see what's fresh, and enjoy being part of something local.
Because the Farmers Market is more than just a place to shop.
*It's our farmers.
*It's our makers.
*It's our small businesses.
*It's our families.
*It's our neighbors.
*It's our community.
And every Saturday that you show up, you help make the Market possible.
Thank you for continuing to shop local, support small, and show up for the people who grow, bake, create, and make right here in our community.
We can't wait to see you Saturday!

đ Produce Spotlight: Eggplant
ââ
Eggplant is one of those vegetables that can be easy to overlook at the Market—but once you find a good local eggplant, there are so many ways to enjoy it!
â
From classic purple eggplant to smaller and uniquely colored varieties, our local growers bring plenty of options to the Market. Eggplant is wonderful roasted, grilled, sautéed, or turned into dishes like eggplant parmesan, ratatouille, or baba ganoush.
â
And here's a little secret: eggplant doesn't have to be peeled! The skin is completely edible and helps hold the eggplant together while cooking.
â
Stop by the Market this Saturday and see what our growers have brought in! đ
đĽ DID YOU KNOW? — Peanuts
â
Did you know peanuts aren't actually nuts?
â
They're legumes, which means they're related to beans and peas!
And here's the really fascinating part: peanut plants flower above the ground, but after the flowers bloom, the plant sends little stems down into the soil. The peanuts develop underground at the end of those stems. Pretty amazing, right?
â
Peanuts are also an important Georgia crop and a true Southern favorite
.
đĽ And this Saturday…
Boiled peanuts will be available at the Oconee Farmers Market!
So after learning a little about how peanuts grow, you can enjoy a good old-fashioned Southern favorite while you're here.
Come hungry, leave happy, and maybe take home a bag of peanuts, too! đĽ
Fresh. Local. Seasonal.
That's what farmers market shopping is all about.
đ Community Happenings

â
We Want to Hear From You!
â
I started the Oconee Farmers Market newsletter because I wanted it to be more than just a place to find out what's happening each Saturday. I wanted it to be a little connection between the Market, our vendors, and you.
â
But now I want to hear from you!
â
Have you been enjoying our weekly newsletter?
And more importantly…
Is there something you'd like to see us add?
Maybe you'd like more vendor spotlights, recipes, Market tips, behind-the-scenes stories, seasonal information, local happenings, or something completely different.
This newsletter is for our Market community, so I'd love to know what you want to see!
â
So here’s to September—new harvests, familiar faces, and lots of Saturday mornings still ahead of us.
See you Saturday!

Shop Local. Support Local. Be Part of the Community.
â
Every time you purchase something at the Oconee Farmers Market, you're doing more than bringing something home.
You're supporting someone's farm.
You're supporting someone's small business.
You're supporting a baker, a maker, an artisan, a grower, or a local family working hard to create something wonderful.
And you're helping keep those dollars right here in our community.
That's what makes a farmers market special.
It's not just about what you buy.
It's about the people behind what you buy.
We'll See You Saturday!
â
Whether you're a longtime Market regular or you're just discovering us for the first time, we hope you'll make the Oconee Farmers Market part of your Saturday morning.
