After weeks of what has felt like endless Georgia heat, it looks like Mother Nature may finally be giving us a little bit of a break—and we are certainly ready for it!
There is something about even the slightest hint of cooler weather that makes a Saturday morning at the Farmers Market sound even better. Grab your market bag, bring the family, and come spend part of your Saturday with us at Wire Park.
The Oconee Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, and our farmers, bakers, makers, artisans, and small businesses will be ready to welcome you. More Than Anything — Thank You

Fall Is Coming — And We Have Lots Ahead!
Summer may be winding down, but the Oconee Farmers Market isn't finished yet!
We still have plenty of Saturdays ahead of us, and we're looking forward to a fun and busy fall season.

Our regular market season may end in October, but that doesn't mean we're disappearing! Watch for details about these special November events.

And before we know it, we'll be celebrating Christmas! It's a wonderful opportunity to shop small, shop local, and find unique gifts while supporting local
businesses and artisans.

🌸 Did You Know?
Your Flowers May Last Longer If You Remove the Leaves Below the Waterline
Those beautiful locally grown bouquets you bring home from the Farmers Market can last longer with one simple step: remove any leaves that will sit below the water in your vase.
Leaves submerged in water begin to break down, encouraging bacterial growth. That bacteria can clog the flower stems and make it harder for them to take up the water they need.
For an even longer-lasting bouquet, give the stems a fresh cut before placing them in clean water, keep the vase out of direct sunlight, and change the water every couple of days.
And here's a little bonus tip: don't put your bouquet right beside your fruit bowl! Ripening fruits such as apples and bananas release ethylene gas, which can cause some cut flowers to age more quickly.
A little extra care can mean a few more days to enjoy those beautiful market blooms. 🌻

🫛 Produce Spotlight: Sweet Potato
Sweet potatoes aren't actually potatoes?
Despite their name, sweet potatoes aren't closely related to regular white potatoes. They're actually part of the morning glory family—and if you've ever seen a sweet potato vine bloom, you may have noticed the resemblance!
Sweet potatoes have been cultivated for thousands of years and are especially at home here in the South. They're packed with nutrients, naturally sweet, and incredibly versatile. Roast them, bake them, mash them, add them to soups, turn them into fries—or, of course, save them for a good old-fashioned sweet potato pie.
And here's another fun fact: sweet potatoes can become sweeter after they're harvested. Proper curing allows some of their starches to convert into sugars while also helping them store longer.
As summer begins giving way to fall, keep an eye out for sweet potatoes and other seasonal favorites from our local growers.

Sometimes It’s the Little Things
Is it just me, or did that little break in the heat feel absolutely wonderful?
After so many hot Saturday mornings, even a few degrees cooler feels like a reminder that fall really is coming. And I have to admit, I’m ready for it!
As I look back over this summer, though, one thing that continues to stand out to me is you. You came when it was hot. You came when the forecast wasn't perfect. You stopped by for tomatoes or bread and stayed to visit. You brought your families, your dogs, your friends, and your market bags, and you continued supporting the people who show up every Saturday to grow, bake, make, and create for our community.
Sometimes I wonder if our customers realize just how much that means.
A Farmers Market doesn't happen simply because we put up tents every Saturday morning. It happens because people make the decision to come. You make that decision week after week, and we notice.
We still have plenty of Market season ahead of us—and some fun things coming this fall—but this week I simply wanted to say thank you for being part of it.
Here's to cooler mornings, full market bags, familiar faces, and a little hint of fall in the air.

Ready to learn sourdough without feeling overwhelmed?
This relaxed, hands-on three-hour workshop will take you through the foundations of sourdough baking from start to finish. You’ll create your own loaf to take home and bake while learning how to make sourdough approachable, fun, and rewarding.
